This blog documents my journey back in time to the places where I was born and raised.
My name is Nienke van der Have. This travel blog documents my journey back in time to the places where I was born and raised. When I was almost 11 years old my family and I left Zimbabwe, where my father worked as a doctor and where I spent 5 years of my childhood. We only went back once after that. Many important events have taken place since then, both in Zimbabwe and in my own life.
I recently became a Dr. in human rights law and decided this would be a great time to finally go back to the place where so many of my ideals originated. It will be a tour of nostalgia, but I will also be sowing seeds for the future as I hope to build a network and perhaps at some point find a job in the region.
Along the way, I will confront my memories with present-day observations. My journey will start in Cape-Town, South Africa, where we spent our last family holiday before moving back to the Netherlands. From there, I will travel in Northern direction, through Zimbabwe and all the way to Kaoma in Zambia, where I was born. I will show you the places I go and tell the stories of the people I meet along the way through blogs, photos and videos.
